Capital Campaign Brochure Balances History & Innovation

The Northside Childcare Development Center has an illustrious history with the founders who presented the evidence showing inequality in education that led to the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision. This history had to be honored in their capital campaign while showing how the organization was continuing to devise new ways to support an impoverished community.

Using each spread as an opportunity to communicate a key point about the organization, we presented the story as the next phase in innovation. The brochure showcases testimonials that we elicited from the parents of children in the program, along with the impact that the organization was achieving, while showcasing the need for the new space. The organization now as the tool they need to appeal to donors in the public phase of the campaign.

Update: After raising $10 million in just six months, Northside is now working on the additional $5 million necessary to sustain its programs and services.

Capital Campaign Brochure Focuses on Intersecting Lives

To raise money for renovation and expansion at the Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center, we used a storytelling approach around the theme of Intersecting Lives. We designed the brochure around three stories with panels that open to reveal people whose lives intersect at the JCC. The brochure describes the specific improvements to the building as well as new additions planned, framed around supporting the Jewish community and putting Jewish values into action. A spread features quotes about how people will benefit from the capital improvements. The hand-drawn style of the people and felt textured stock lend a personal touch, while a pocket contains inserts describing the various giving opportunities.

Case for Support Appeals to U.S. Donors to Israeli University

The American Society of the University of Haifa needed to articulate to donors why they should support the newest of the seven major universities in Israel. The message focused on their academic excellence, multiversity model, and uniqueness as a pluralistic university that attracts students and staff from Jewish, Arab, and other backgrounds. The design presents a modern look that showcases their diverse perspective and innovation in marine sciences and other areas. The 8-page Case for Support brochure is accompanied by a Giving Opportunities piece that describes the specific ways that donors can lend their support.

Raising Money for the Building Next Door

POTS had grown from a soup kitchen to a leading poverty-fighting organization in the Bronx. When the building next door became available, they purchased it to expand their case management services and introduce a job training program. To promote the campaign raising $5 million, we developed a brochure around the theme of ”The Next Door of Opportunity.”

The 12-page brochure focuses each spread on another aspect including their vision for growth and plans for the new building. A series of inserts provides information on the giving opportunities and donor story. We also developed a website specifically for the campaign: www.potscampaign.org

A Compelling Case for Three Capital Campaigns

When UJA Federation of New York wanted to raise $70 million for three major initiatives that ushered in their second century, they needed materials that would get noticed. We developed the theme of BUILD BOLD to unify the three campaigns. We then wrote, designed, and produced three brochures that each stand out on their own but work together when presented as a set. Each brochure poses three questions to engage donors before revealing the BUILD BOLD response unfolded across three panels. The purpose of each project is clearly communicated through words and images that help donors envision the impact they can have.

Hospice House Case for Support Showcases Personal Stories

This capital campaign brochure was designed to raise funds to construct a residential hospice house. Instead of focusing on the physical building, we created a human connection by telling the stories of people who might use the hospice house. The illustrations create a warm feeling and bring the stories to life, creating an emotional connection to people who might need the hospice house, which may move them to support the project.

Result

Within two weeks of having the brochure, the organization received a $750,000 donation, getting them halfway to the total needed.

Case for Support Helps Community Organization Tell Its Story

Like many small community-based organizations, Brooklyn Jubilee was powered by the passion of its founder to change lives in the neighborhoods in which it works and had not paid attention to its fundraising. Shifts in the organization’s services became the impetus for creating a Case for Support document to show why the organization is worthy of donor support.

Starting from scratch, we crafted an approach around what we called the 4-in-1 service model to help donors understand how Brooklyn Jubilee helps neighbors in need with four services at one time — a community meal that addresses hunger, nutrition counseling, health screenings, and legal advice.

The 12-page brochure makes a compelling case, motivating people to help their fellow Brooklynites, emphasizing the organization’s lean structure and its credibility. The brochure gives board members the tool they need to tell the Jubilee story to prospective donors.

Reinvigorating a Stalled Capital Campaign

To re-energize this school’s stalled capital campaign, Red Rooster Group developed an enticing brochure to engage donors in what the new and renovated spaces would mean for students.

The school was a year into its capital campaign goal for renovating some of its existing spaces and building new ones, when its campaign started to fizzle. The school’s existing base of high-end donors needed a fresh reason to support the campaign.

We interviewed students to find out how they felt about the new spaces and how they personally would benefit. Quotes from these interviews were used to bring the architectural renderings to life. We printed the quotes on semi-transparent vellum pages that overlaid the renderings. This strategy helps donors understand how the new spaces would improve the educational experience and build a more vibrant community.

The progress that had been made in construction was also showcased, with an updated floor plan that highlighted the spaces already completed. The oversized 15 x 10 inch format (which opens to 30 inches) with full page, full bleed images, and vellum overlays got donors to take another look at the campaign. The campaign piece provides multiple ways to engage donors based on their various interests.

Capital Campaign to Expand Space and Programs

When the Brooklyn Heights Synagogue had the opportunity to purchase the building next door, they took it. They then turned to Red Rooster Group to design fundraising materials to raise the $3.5 million to pay down the mortgage.

After an assessment of the congregation’s donor history, we reviewed the synagogue’s materials and developed a series of possible themes to communicate how the capital campaign met the growing needs of the synagogue — Possibilities, Community, and Growth. Based on the Growth theme, we developed the campaign name, logo, brochure, posters, pledge cards, note cards, and an FAQ sheet.
