Case for Support

Telling Your Story in a Compelling Way

Your Case for Support, also called a Case Statement, describes why your organization needs support. A well-written and well-designed document tells donors your story in a compelling way that instills trust and confidence, and motivates them to support your cause.

Your capital campaign Case for Support is an opportunity to:

  • Captivate your donors and motivate them to support your campaign.
  • Describe how your campaign will expand your organization’s impact.
  • Engage your audiences in your mission, leverage your past success, and present your organization as a leader in its sector.
  • Showcase the range of services you provide as well as your impact.

Red Rooster Group’s Process for Developing Your Case for Support

Based on our extensive experience in working with nonprofits, Red Rooster Group has developed a process that results in effective Case for Support documents.

1. Discovery

In creating your Case for Support, our first phase is getting to know your nonprofit.

  • We’ll review your organizational information, including your website, brochures, presentations, strategic documents, and any other relevant documents you have.
  • We’ll also review information about your stakeholders and donors, and talk with your leadership about their goals and vision for the capital campaign.
OUTCOME:

A solid understanding of what your Case for Support needs to communicate.

2. Creative Brief

Based on the findings from the Discovery Phase, we will write a Creative Brief that will set the goals of the project and the standards by which options will be judged, including:

  • Information about your campaign.
  • Key messages to be conveyed.
  • Creative considerations.
  • Words that your organization uses or avoids.
  • Any brand guidelines that you have.

We will ask you to approve this Creative Brief before the next steps are taken.

OUTCOME:

Creative Brief to guide your Case for Support.

V

3. Concepts

Red Rooster Group will develop two different approaches for your Case for Support that meet the Creative Brief.

  • These will include a theme, headline, subheads, and overall visual direction showing images that may be placeholders.
  • We will present an outline of the copy to be included, showing how it maps out on the pages.
  • We will present these concepts to your Capital Campaign Marketing Committee.
  • We’ll explain the concepts, answer your questions about them, help you evaluate them, and select one concept for us to develop.
OUTCOME:
One approved direction for your Case for Support.

ADDITIONAL SERVICE: Field Testing

As part of the process, some nonprofits want to get feedback on how well their Case for Support resonates with donors. In these cases, we can do this through one-on-one sessions with donors that delve into how individual donors respond to each of the framing concepts. We can also conduct focus groups to explore how donors perceive the organization.

4. Development

In this stage, we will develop the approved concept, which includes writing the copy for all the pages, selecting images to use or creating artwork, and designing the Case for Support. Copy and images go hand in hand in telling your story through an integrated design that draws donors in with an emotional appeal.

  • We will present this for your review and ask you to provide appropriate feedback on specific language, images, and other details.
  • We will make a color mock-up of your Case for Support so that you can see what it looks like on paper, how its folds, and other details.
  • Your team will have the opportunity to review your Case for Support document and make comments.
  • We’ll make the adjustments needed and present the updated Case for Support for your review.
  • We will write the printing specifications and get printing quotes once the number of pages, paper stock, and other variables are known.
OUTCOME:

A written and designed Case for Support document.

V

ADDITIONAL SERVICE: Photo Shoot

Strong images are essential for bringing your Case for Support to life and giving it impact. If you do not have images, we can arrange a photo shoot to capture images that tell your story. We’ll discuss scenarios that make sense for your organization, plan the shoot, coordinate with the photographer, direct the shoot, review the images, and create a pool of selected images.

V

5. Refinement

In this phase, all the copy and graphic elements are solidly in place and minor refinements may be made. Printing bids are back and we recommend a printer.

OUTCOME:

Refinement to reflect your feedback.

V

6. Pre-Press

We will prepare the files for printing and digital use, ensuring all photos are high resolution, do any final image retouching, create the needed elements and instructions for printing.

  • We will ask you for another thorough review and proofread.
  • We will ask you to sign an Approval Form and Print Order Approval before we send the files to the printer.
  • Any changes after approvals are signed will incur additional fees.
OUTCOME:

Print-ready files.

V

7. Print Management

In this phase, we will coordinate all details of the project with the printer.

  • We will review the printer’s proofs thoroughly for quality assurance.
  • We will ask you to review these as well, and sign your approval. This will be your last review before your Case for Support is printed.
  • We will coordinate delivery of the printed Case for Support to you.
  • You will be responsible for paying the printer directly. Depending upon the printer selected, they may extend credit, require payment up front, or upon delivery.
OUTCOME:

Printed Case for Support documents.

Your Final Case for Support

Your resulting Case for Support document will provide a compelling motivation for donors to support your campaign and provide your capital campaign committee and board members with the tool they need to raise money with confidence.
